Passionate about Hobbies and Pastimes

Many of us have a hobby or pastime we are extremely passionate about. Not everyone can get into thimble or antique lug-nut collecting; or how about Russian lace tatting? Nor can everyone appreciate storm chasing, Frisbee golf or climbing mountains without ropes (are they crazy). If you are like me, your passions matter. And finding people with like-passions is as important as the hobby or pastime itself. Finding these like-minded people mean more ideas, better techniques and greater networking. In addition to that, isn?t it wonderful to meet others who know what makes you tick?

I got into hobbies and pastimes when my father decided that my siblings and I had been in front of the television way too much. After he cut the power cord in two, we quickly found other things to do outside. Helping your children or grandchildren find their hobby interests doesn?t have to be as dramatic as mine. Sorry dad. Certainly one of the best ways to keep your children active and out of trouble is by getting them interested in sports, outdoor activities, crafts and hobbies. There?s plenty to be said about keeping youngsters occupied. However, when they are occupied with something they like to do, then you?re getting somewhere.

How many computer games or TV reruns can your children watch before they say those delightful little words, ?I?m bored. What can I do now?? or my favorite, ?There?s nothing to do.? When those wonderful statements of boredom ring in your ears you?ve got to be ready. But with what? Do you throw them some crayons and a coloring book? How about some yarn and a couple of buttons? Finding hobbies and pastime ideas that everyone likes doesn?t have to be difficult; and I?m not just talking about children. People of all ages are looking for something interesting and enjoyable to.

Hobbies continue to prove themselves therapeutic. From getting people out of the house to meet others and make friends to improving cardiovascular health and dexterity. It would be too simplistic to say hobbies and pastimes will cure what ails you, but it does come close. In the very least, hobbies can certainly relieve stress and get the mind active.

You?ll find hobby ideas for every sort of person; from the intellectual to the athletic, from the homemaker to the attorney. Truly, with these ideas and more, there is no reason to stay bored long.

I know a friend who stayed home with her newborn and took so many pictures her guestroom was filled with boxes. She always wanted to get those pictures out and brag on her beautiful baby, but when she?d drag out a dozen boxes or so, her guests would soon find an excuse to leave. Finally a friend asked her, ?Have you tried scrapbooking?? So what do you think her hobby became? That?s right--besides photography--she became a scrapbooker. And a good one at that. Now when she brings out the pictures they are in beautifully organized and decorated albums. People enjoy looking at her pictures and they brag on her new hobby.

So what if you?re not into jogging, scrapbooking or nature walks? How about collecting? Did you know some experts consider collecting an art form? Stamp collecting and coin collecting are certainly artistic. Many collectors treat these objects as works of art akin to Van Gough paintings or Renaissance sculptures. Who could blame them? The designs that are sketched or engraved in the surface of the stamp or coin are made by people who are extremely gifted and talented.

Perhaps you would collect something a bit different. One of the most interesting things to collect are art collectibles. People collect such art as painted saw blades, wooden eggs, designer rugs, limited edition plates, and thimbles to name a few. Collectible art is not limited to fine art paintings. Collecting is one of those pastimes which anyone can participate in.

On the web you will find a gazillion sites trying to sell you something for your hobby. Some are better than others. Some don?t care about the hobby or pastime, just the sale. It is refreshing when a site comes along that offers relevant information and ideas about hobbies and pastimes.
